The Devil is a Lie, Part 10 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 1160 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 1466 since Jan. 1, 2016)

TEXT: Matthew 12:22-37:

22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

John MacArthur said, “The words of men are accurate gauges of their hearts. If you have a transformed heart and Jesus Christ has come into your life and transformed your heart, then you will speak words by which God will justify you. If Christ has never changed your heart, then you will speak words by which God will condemn you.”

In our first message we looked at the response to Jesus’ healing. We saw that while the common people asked among themselves if Jesus was the Messiah, the Pharisees accused Jesus of gaining His power through the devil. In our second message we saw how Jesus showed the absurdity of the Pharisees accusations. Jesus proved that He was of God. In our third message, we saw how Jesus showed that the kingdom of God has come by displaying his power over Satan. In our fourth message, we looked at how Jesus warned that there is no middle ground in the conflict between Jesus and Satan. In our fifth and sixth messages, we looked at how Jesus speaks judgment against those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

David Guzik said, “The bad fruit of their words (when they condemned Jesus) betrayed the bad root growing in their hearts. If they got their hearts right with God, their words about Jesus would also be right. With these words, “Brood of vipers” Jesus essentially called the religious leaders “sons of Satan.” They were a generation associated with the serpent, not with God. It was this evil nature that made them speak evil of Jesus. Our words reveal our heart. If there were good treasure in the heart of these religious leaders, it would show itself in good things. Men will give account of every idle, evil, and wicked word they may speak in the day of judgment. Adam Clarke said that the sense of the ancient Greek word used for an idle word is “a word that does nothing, that neither ministers grace nor instruction to them who hear it.” If this is true, many preachers might find themselves guilty of this sin. Jesus answered an anticipated objection – that He made too much of mere words – by saying “By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.” Because words reflect the heart, one can be rightly judged by their words.” You will have to give an account for every word you have spoken on judgment day. All of us have said things we wish we had never said. All of these words, whether they were careless or deliberately sinful, will be brought forth on judgment day, and we will have to give account for it. The blasphemous words of the Pharisees will return to them on the day of judgment, and all of our words will return to us on the day of judgment. It would be wise to keep these words of Jesus on our minds, so that there will be a check on our tongues before we utter careless words. Words reveal what is in our hearts and will be used as evidence against us in the day of judgment, to show us as unprofitable servants. However, Jesus told us that all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven us, if we will be but receive. Be washed in the blood of Christ and repent of your sinful words, so that you will be saved on judgment day.

Ernest W. Shurtleff wrote:

Lead on, O King eternal,
the day of march has come;
henceforth in fields of conquest
your tents will be our home.
Through days of preparation
your grace has made us strong;
and now, O King eternal,
we lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal,
till sin’s fierce war shall cease,
and holiness shall whisper
the sweet amen of peace.
For not with swords’ loud clashing
or roll of stirring drums
with deeds of love and mercy
the heavenly kingdom comes.

Lead on, O King eternal;
we follow, not with fears,
for gladness breaks like morning
where’er your face appears.
Your cross is lifted o’er us,
we journey in its light;
the crown awaits the conquest;
lead on, O God of might.

Now, if you are with us today and you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! President Trump puts wad of cash into the collection box at mask-free church service in Vegas

President Donald Trump attended a high energy church service Sunday morning at the International Church of Las Vegas, where he pulled out eight bills – which looked to be $20s – to add to the collection plate.

The service was part concert, part prayer session and even part rally, as the church’s pastor Paul Marc Goulet, ticked off a list of Trump’s accomplishments.

‘He gave the church back a voice,’ Goulet said. ‘He’s given a voice to the unborn,’ the pastor added, earning Trump loud cheers and a partial standing ovation from the crowd.

Goulet also thanked Trump for making his third appearance at the non-denominational Christian church, where members worship to music and flag dancers. ‘This is your third time here. That means you’re really a church member,’ Goulet said.

Trump attended the indoor service alongside aides Hope Hicks, Kayleigh McEnany and Dan Scavino.

Only a smattering of worshippers were wearing masks.

Goulet talked about the need in the community because of the area’s high unemployment rate due to the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Right now we’re feeding about 25,000 people a month in the city. Because, Mr. President we went to about 28-29 per cent unemployment in our city and our Clark County and because of that we just have cars lining up,’ Goulet said.

Standing Between the Living and the Dead Memorial Prayer Devotional Service for Coronavirus Victims and their Families #159 Part 1 with Daniel Whyte III

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Daily Devotional Bible Reading Episode #325. Where I read three chapters of the Holy Bible in the King James Version each day with my family as a part of our family devotions, to encourage you to read the Holy Bible in a year’s time. Today we are reading 2 Chronicles 19, Isaiah 41, and Micah 3.

Theodore Roosevelt said, “A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.”

Horatius Bonar said, “We must study the Bible more. We must not only lay it up within us, but transfuse it through the whole texture of the soul.”

2 Chronicles 19
1 And Je-hosh’-a-phat the king of Ju’-dah returned to his house in peace to Je-ru’-sa-lem.

2 And Je’-hu the son of Ha-na’-ni the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Je-hosh’-a-phat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

3 Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

4 And Je-hosh’-a-phat dwelt at Je-ru’-sa-lem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-she’-ba to mount E’-phra-im, and brought them back unto the Lord God of their fathers.

5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Ju’-dah, city by city,

6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.

7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

8 Moreover in Je-ru’-sa-lem did Je-hosh’-a-phat set of the Le’-vites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Is’-ra-el, for the judgment of the Lord, and for controversies, when they returned to Je-ru’-sa-lem.

9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

10 And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in your cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the Lord, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.

11 And, behold, Am-a-ri’-ah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zeb-a-di’-ah the son of Ish’-ma-el, the ruler of the house of Ju’-dah, for all the king’s matters: also the Le’-vites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.

Isaiah 41
1 Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.

2 Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.

3 He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.

4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he.

5 The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.

6 They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.

7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

8 But thou, Is’-ra-el, art my servant, Ja’-cob whom I have chosen, the seed of Ab’-ra-ham my friend.

9 Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

14 Fear not, thou worm Ja’-cob, and ye men of Is’-ra-el; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Is’-ra-el.

15 Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.

16 Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Is’-ra-el.

17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Is’-ra-el will not forsake them.

18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:

20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Is’-ra-el hath created it.

21 Produce your cause, saith the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Ja’-cob.

22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.

24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.

25 I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.

26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.

27 The first shall say to Zi’-on, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Je-ru’-sa-lem one that bringeth good tidings.

28 For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

29 Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.

Micah 3
1 And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Ja’-cob, and ye princes of the house of Is’-ra-el; Is it not for you to know judgment?

2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

4 Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

5 Thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

6 Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

7 Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

8 But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Ja’-cob his transgression, and to Is’-ra-el his sin.

9 Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Ja’-cob, and princes of the house of Is’-ra-el, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.

10 They build up Zi’-on with blood, and Je-ru’-sa-lem with iniquity.

11 The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the Lord, and say, Is not the Lord among us? none evil can come upon us.

12 Therefore shall Zi’-on for your sake be plowed as a field, and Je-ru’-sa-lem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

When I was a teenager I wanted to get wisdom and knowledge, so I set out to read the big family Bible that many families had in those days. But I couldn’t get past Genesis 2 before I got bored with reading the Bible. I found out later in life that you have to believe on Christ and get saved before you can understand the Bible. So here is how I became a Christian and how you can too:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

This is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International with The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #661 where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary or Matthew Henry Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Habakkuk 1:1.

1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

________

That was Habakkuk 1:1. Now here is the sense of it.

The FaithLife Study Bible reads:
The book of Habakkuk examines injustice from the experience of a righteous person crying out to God for a remedy. God responds to the prophet: Be patient, observant, and steady in your faith, for my judgment will happen at the appointed time. God’s response allows Habakkuk to rejoice in God’s saving power—even while struggling with a question that every generation asks: Why is evil allowed to thrive? The answer is profound yet difficult: Trust God because He is both powerful and just.

The opening verse identifies the book as the oracle of the prophet Habakkuk. His name seems to come from the Hebrew word for “embrace.” Habakkuk might have been a Levite and even a priest, since the end of the book contains musical instruction, typically associated with Levites. A dual role as prophet and priest was not necessarily uncommon: The prophets Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Zechariah also served as priests. The book of Habakkuk was written during a time when the Chaldeans were gaining significant power. The Chaldeans were a Semitic people living in southeastern Babylonia (modern-day Iraq) after migrating from Aram (modern-day Syria). The Old Testament sometimes uses the term “Chaldeans” to refer to the Babylonians. The Hebrew text of Habakkuk does the same; consequently, some English translations use the term “Babylonians.” Habakkuk probably was written in the late seventh century bc—when the Babylonians were beginning to overtake the Assyrians as the major power in the ancient Near East.

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening podcast. This is Episode #271.

Charles Spurgeon was a prominent English Particular Baptist preacher. He was very influential among the Christians of various denominations during his age and even today, and is commonly called the “Prince of Preachers”. After some time of alternately searching for God and running from God, he had a powerful encounter which led him to give his life to Christ. Spurgeon was only 16 when he preached his first sermon and he began publishing books shortly afterward. At the time of his death, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions. Spurgeon said, “encouraging thoughts are like honey to the heart”, and wrote this devotional in hopes that its uplifting messages for each day of the year would bring comfort and refreshment to our walk with God. He was inspired by Isaiah 50:4 which reads, “He wakeneth morning by morning. He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned” and Psalm 63:5-6 which says, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches.”

Acts 13:39 reads: “And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”

The believer in Christ receives a present justification. Faith does not produce this fruit by-and-by, but now. So far as justification is the result of faith, it is given to the soul in the moment when it closes with Christ, and accepts him as its all in all. Are they who stand before the throne of God justified now?—so are we, as truly and as clearly justified as they who walk in white and sing melodious praises to celestial harps. The thief upon the cross was justified the moment that he turned the eye of faith to Jesus; and Paul, the aged, after years of service, was not more justified than was the thief with no service at all. We are today accepted in the Beloved, today absolved from sin, today acquitted at the bar of God. Oh! soul-transporting thought! There are some clusters of Eshcol’s vine which we shall not be able to gather till we enter heaven; but this is a bough which runneth over the wall. This is not as the corn of the land, which we can never eat till we cross the Jordan; but this is part of the manna in the wilderness, a portion of our daily nutriment with which God supplies us in our journeying to and fro. We are now—even now pardoned; even now are our sins put away; even now we stand in the sight of God accepted, as though we had never been guilty. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” There is not a sin in the Book of God, even now, against one of his people. Who dareth to lay anything to their charge? There is neither speck, nor spot, nor wrinkle, nor any such thing remaining upon any one believer in the matter of justification in the sight of the Judge of all the earth. Let present privilege awaken us to present duty, and now, while life lasts, let us spend and be spent for our sweet Lord Jesus.

PRAY.

Thank you for listening to the Morning and Evening podcast. If you do not know the Lord as your Savior, here is how you can be saved from Hell and walk with the Lord morning and evening until you go to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die:

For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior today, please email me at dw3@gospellightsociety.com and let us know. There is some free material that we want to send you. If you have a prayer request, please e-mail that to us as well, and we will pray for you until you tell us to stop.

God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.0

Standing Between the Living and the Dead Memorial Prayer Devotional Service for Coronavirus Victims and their Families #159 Part 2 with Daniel Whyte III

THERE IS MORE SAID IN THE PODCAST AUDIO THAN IN THE NOTES BELOW

Numbers 16:41-50

41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord.

42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.

43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

Even though we are remembering the dead in this memorial prayer devotional service, it is more for the living.

For some strange reason, unlike with other tragedies, the names and faces of the thousands of victims are not being shown and memorialized in newspapers.

God Does His Greatest Work Through Simple Acts of Obedience

J.D. Greear, Ph.D., is the President of the Southern Baptist Convention and pastors the Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, NC.

God can accomplish more through one simple act of obedience than the most talented leaders can accomplish in a lifetime on their own.

When I was in college, I was the leader of a small campus ministry. By small, I mean that there weren’t more than 10 of us in the whole thing. We decided we wanted to host a big evangelistic event on campus. We booked the largest auditorium on campus and did all the usual promo—booked a local worship band, passed out fliers promising free hot dogs, etc.

The day before the event, I had that huge knot in my stomach that always comes on the eve of massive, humiliating failure. (I’ve had enough failures in my life to know exactly what it feels like when one is moments away. It’s like the ache in his bones my granddad used to get before a big rain.) Our leadership team was sitting in the school cafeteria working through the final details of our event. I was bracing myself and our team for the worst when I heard a small commotion coming from just over my left shoulder. I turned, and there on top of the table stood one of the girls on our leadership team. She was small, quiet, and shy. But there she stood, stamping her foot and calling for the attention of all four to five hundred people in the lunchroom. Yes, it was as awkward as you are imagining it.

“I’m sorry to interrupt your lunch,” she said, “but I wanted to invite all of you to an event we’re hosting tomorrow night in the campus theatre. One of our friends is going to share his story about how he came to know Jesus and tell you how Jesus can change your life, too. And we really want you all to be there because Jesus is the greatest thing in our lives. Please come.” And then she started to sit back down.

“Oh, and there will be free hot dogs,” she added.

We all stared at her.

She quietly resumed her lunch.

“Uh, what was that?” I asked, glancing into her glass to see if someone had added in a little something interesting to her Diet Coke.

“I’m not sure,” she said, “I just felt like the Spirit of God wanted me to do that.”

I’m not saying that obedience to the Spirit means you start standing up on tables in public dining facilities. On the whole, I’d counsel against it. But I will tell you that more than 700 people showed up the next night, and 51 people made first-time professions of faith.

God does his greatest works through small acts of obedience from seemingly insignificant people.
