Citing Scripture from Titus, Christian Fox Sports 1 analyst Chris Broussard slammed a suggestion by televangelist T.D. Jakes as “offensive” and unbiblical that if unverified sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him were true, all he has to do is repent and keep on working.
“I didn’t like the way he handled the situation at his church that first Sunday after the allegations were made. He said something to the effect of if he did commit these things, … all he’d have to do is repent and plead the blood and all that, and he’d be forgiven,” said Broussard in a post on Instagram Saturday.
The post from Broussard came two weeks after Jakes, who leads The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, Texas, intimated to his congregation on Christmas Eve that if an unverified report casting innuendo about his sexuality and accusing him of participating in sex parties hosted by music mogul Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy, was true, all he had to do was repent and everything would be alright.
“The worst that could happen, if everything was true, all I got to do is repent sincerely, from my heart. There’s enough power in the blood to cover all kinds of sin. I don’t care what it is; the blood would fix it. But I ain’t got to repent about this,” Jakes declared in a public livestream of the service on YouTube, which has since been made private.
“All I got to do is step over top of it and keep on going on. I’m not in trouble. I’m talking about the power of the blood. Amen. Thank you, Jesus. I have used it, and I will use it again. But I ain’t got to use it for that. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Whenever I need it, it’s available to me. And it’s available to you. And you can have it when you need it. But you don’t have to plead the blood if you didn’t do the crime,” Jakes added.
Citing the requirements for leaders in the church from Titus 1, Broussard called Jakes’ response “offensive” and unbiblical. He also stated that any pastor found guilty of sexual misconduct should not just repent, but they should be removed from their office or made to do so by the elders in the congregation they represent.
“That’s offensive that you get up there [the pulpit] claiming to know the Word of God and say that all you got to do is repent as if we can just all live as unholy and unrighteous as we want and just repent. That’s abusing the grace of God, and the grace of God is nothing to play with,” Broussard asserted.
“I’m not saying he’s guilty, Bishop Jakes. I’m just saying, if he is, then this is what should happen. So again, my concern is the Body of Christ. And the way that those of you believers out there, the way that you avoid getting fooled by a false teacher, a charlatan, the way you avoid getting sucked into a really bad situation, bad church situation, is to hold your pastors to the Word of God,” he continued.
“What I just read in Titus, if your pastor is blatantly stepping outside of that, habitually stepping outside of that righteous, holy, self-controlled [character], then you need to jet. I’m serious,” he added. “You need to get out of that church.”
Jakes, a 66-year-old married father and grandfather, has been a well-known figure in the Christian community for decades, filling arenas across the globe with followers clamoring to hear his sermons, buy his books and support his philanthropic work.
Broussard, who is also president of the K.I.N.G Movement, an organization that aims to uplift men through biblical teachings, said the allegations against Jakes, who has been described as “one of the biggest names in American Christianity” next to Billy Graham, have shaken many Christians.
“Now, I’m not going to really address him [Jakes] personally. I have no idea if he’s guilty or not. If I address him personally, it will be when the truth comes out or when we know more. But I feel like this situation needs to be addressed because there are a lot of Christians who are shaken by this. And that’s my concern,” the Christian broadcaster said.
“If anyone was harmed by Bishop TD Jakes, then that’s a concern for sure. But outside of that, my concern is the Body of Christ. Because a lot of Christians, when something like this happens, and someone who was a leader in the church falls publicly like this, allegedly, I have no idea if he’s guilty. I’m not saying he is or isn’t. But it can rock your world, so to speak,” he added. “It can lead people to doubt the existence of God, to doubt God’s power, to doubt Jesus Christ, to question whether or not Christianity, salvation, the Holy Spirit, all of this stuff is it real or is it just a scam?”

Social media users attacked what they considered to be a “demonic” new preview for rapper Lil Nas X’s upcoming single “J Christ.”
The rapper dropped an image for the song that features him as Jesus Christ on the cross while a group pulls it into place. He also attached a GIF of himself as Jesus on a golden cross that transforms into a kind of angelic armor around him.
“MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME! J CHRIST JANUARY 12, 2024 00:00 EST BE THERE!” Lil Nas X wrote on X Monday.
Though the rapper argued that the song is “dedicated” to Christ, other rappers and commentators expressed doubt that the ordinarily controversial LGBTQ performer suddenly found Jesus.
“Oh gee whiz I’m sure this won’t be as blasphemous as possible,” conservative author Rachel Wilson wrote.
Influencer Oli London noted, “Singer @LilNasX MOCKS Jesus in a teaser for his new single ‘J Christ’ as he appears in underwear and silver boots in a video clip posted to his X. “This is demonic,” rapper Bryson Gray responded.

“Lil Nas x releasing single ‘J Christ’ mocking Jesus and Christians,” Christian rapper Kory Yeshua wrote on X with a TikTok video deconstructing the images.
“People will defend this because they worship these celebrities. They have made idols out of these celebrities. People need to realize there is a spiritual war happening between the light and the dark, between good and evil,” Yeshua said.
Lil Nas X pushed back against the critics, insisting that the image is not a mockery of Jesus.
“the crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of jesus. Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of sh-t. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. Stfu,” he wrote.
Lil Nas X has been promoting what he’s referred to as his “Christian era” of music on social media. In November, he released a video of himself singing about calling on angels while wearing a shirt reading “If God doesn’t exist, then who’s laughing at us?”
However, a preview for “J Christ” included lyrics that reportedly say, “Which way that we going? Hm, this way/Took them to the telling and I told ’em it’s a dizzy/Turn up, baby, we gon’ have to check out at like 6-8/Really it’s that easy, but your Uber on the wizzay/Back-back-back up out the gravеsite, b-tch I’m back like J. Christ/I’m finna get thе gays hype, I’m finna take it ye high.”
The chorus also appeared to allude to his own controversy, saying, “Is he up to something? Only I-I know/Is he ’bout to hit ’em with the high-igh note?/Is he ’bout to give ’em somethin’ vi-iral?/Is he ’bout to hit ’em with the high-igh note?”
Lil Nas X came under fire in 2021 for pushing satanic imagery in his music and merchandise. In the music video for his song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” the rapper was dressed provocatively, pole dancing and giving Satan a lap dance in Hell. He also pushed a line of Satan-themed sneakers that featured a pentagram and inverted cross and boasted about having a drop of real human blood.

Israeli officials initially were convinced that the Lebanese militant group was behind the Hamas incursion and had received bad intelligence that a Hezbollah attack was imminent in the days after Oct. 7, according to two senior U.S. officials. There were deep fears in Israel that the government would miss the signs of another violent assault.
Biden was on the phone up to three times a day, the senior administration official said, in part working to dissuade Israel from attacking Hezbollah — a move that would have resulted in “all hell breaking loose,” the official said. The Israelis’ deep fears about the threat influenced Biden’s decision to fly to Tel Aviv less than two weeks after the Hamas attack, according to one of the senior officials.
The risk that Israel might launch an ambitious attack on Hezbollah has never gone away, said White House and State Department officials, but there has been broader concern about an escalation in recent weeks, particularly as Israel announced the temporary withdrawal of several thousand troops from Gaza on Jan. 1 — a decision that could open up resources for a military operation in the north.
“They have a freer hand to escalate,” said a U.S. official.
Another U.S. official said that the forces Israel withdrew from Gaza could be deployed to the north after sufficient time to rest and prepare for another wave of combat. But Israel’s air force is also overworked, having conducted constant strikes since the war began in October, said the official, explaining the Defense Intelligence Agency’s assessment that an escalation in Lebanon would spread Israeli forces thin.
Pilots are tired, and airplanes have to be maintained and refitted, the official said. They would face more dangerous missions in Lebanon than in Gaza, where Hamas has little in the way of antiaircraft defenses to shoot down attacking planes.
On Thursday, Biden sent special envoy Amos Hochstein to Israel to work on an agreement to reduce tensions at the Lebanese-Israeli border. A landmark lawsuit has been filed against the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City for alleged gender discrimination in its selection process for a new senior pastor following the death of Calvin O. Butts III in 2022.
Eboni Marshall Turman, a former pastor at Abyssinian and a current Yale Divinity School professor, initiated the legal action after being excluded as a finalist for the role, The Associated Press reported.
Marshall Turman, who made history in 2007 as the youngest pastor ordained in Abyssinian’s 215-year history, alleges that sexism played a significant role in the decision, as stated in her lawsuit filed on Dec. 29, according to the newswire, which said the lawsuit names both the church and the search committee chair, Valerie S. Grant, accusing them of gender discrimination.
The lawsuit seeks monetary damages for “lost wages, lost benefits, other economic damages, shame, humiliation, embarrassment, and mental distress,” and an injunction against hiring-related gender discrimination.
The church and Grant have denied these allegations. Abyssinian spokesperson LaToya Evans was quoted as saying that while Marshall Turman’s impressive background was considered, she did not meet certain key requirements. Grant described the selection process as rigorous, noting that Marshall Turman was one of 11 candidates shortlisted from 47 applicants but did not receive enough votes to advance.
The remaining candidates for the senior pastor role are all men, including the Rev. Kevin Johnson and Derrick Harkins.
Marshall Turman, whose research focuses on gender politics in black churches, has been vocal about the “theological erasure” and “violence” against black women in these institutions. Her forthcoming book, Black Women’s Burden: Male Power, Gender Violence, and the Scandal of African American Social Christianity, delves into these issues.
Marshall Turman’s lawsuit details her qualifications and the support she received from Butts, her ministry mentor.
The lawsuit comes in the wake of Butts’ death in October 2022, a loss mourned by a diverse community. Butts, who led the church for three decades, was celebrated for his commitment to social and racial justice. His memorial service saw tributes from figures like former President Bill Clinton and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, highlighting Butts’ influence in both religious and civic spheres.
“I talked to Reverend Butts, not long before he passed and by then we had been friends a long time,” Clinton said at the time, as reported by The Christian Post.
‘Over My Dead Body’: Woman Seeking To Be First Female Senior Pastor Of Flagship Church Sues Over Alleged Gender Bias
Reverend Eboni Marshall Turman sued the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City for alleged gender discrimination after she was not selected to attain a senior pastor position, according to the lawsuit.
Turman, 42, filed a lawsuit against the church Dec. 29, 2023 seeking to “recover damages and equitable relief” as a result of the church allegedly discriminating against her gender while filling the open senior pastor position, according to the lawsuit.
The Abyssinian church lost its longtime senior pastor, Calvin O. Butts, after he passed away in October 2022 due to cancer, according to the Associated Press (AP). Since his death, the church had applicants apply for the position, which included Turman, a professor at Yale Divinity School at the time, the outlet reported.
Turman previously worked with the church for roughly 10 years as the assistant minister, becoming one of the youngest women to be named to the position, according to her website. After submitting her application to the church, however, the former assistant minister did not make it to the finalist round, AP News reported.
Turman’s lawsuit specifically called out committee chair Valerie S. Grant, claiming she had “behaved inappropriately” by asking “questions and pressing topics” that were similarly asked to the male applicants, the lawsuit claims. Turman additionally claimed Grant and another committee member stated Abyssinian would only hire a woman as the senior “over my dead body.”
“Gender discrimination motivated the decision not to hire [Marshall Turman], a fact discussed openly during meetings of the Committee, including by Grant and another Committee member, who said that Abyssinian would only hire a woman as its Senior Pastor ‘over my dead body,’” the complaint stated.
