LAMENTATIONS 3:24

“The Lord is my portion, saith my soul.”

It is not “The Lord is partly my portion,” nor “The Lord is in my portion”; but he himself makes up the sum total of my soul’s inheritance. Within the circumference of that circle lies all that we possess or desire. The Lord is my portion. Not his grace merely, nor his love, nor his covenant, but Jehovah himself. He has chosen us for his portion, and we have chosen him for ours. It is true that the Lord must first choose our inheritance for us, or else we shall never choose it for ourselves; but if we are really called according to the purpose of electing love, we can sing–

“Lov’d of my God for him again

With love intense I burn;

Chosen of him ere time began,

I choose him in return.”

The Lord is our all-sufficient portion. God fills himself; and if God is all-sufficient in himself, he must be all- sufficient for us. It is not easy to satisfy man’s desires. When he dreams that he is satisfied, anon he wakes to the perception that there is somewhat yet beyond, and straightway the horse-leech in his heart cries, “Give, give.” But all that we can wish for is to be found in our divine portion, so that we ask, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” Well may we “delight ourselves in the Lord” who makes us to drink of the river of his pleasures. Our faith stretches her wings and mounts like an eagle into the heaven of divine love as to her proper dwelling-place. “The lines have fallen to us in pleasant places; yea, we have a goodly heritage.” Let us rejoice in the Lord always; let us show to the world that we are a happy and a blessed people, and thus induce them to exclaim, “We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

If You do Not Know Jesus Christ as Your Savior, Let me Show You How to Place Your Faith and Trust in Him For Salvation From Sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Mark 9:43-48: “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today, please fill me with Your Holy and help me to repent of my sins. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

The word of the Lord that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

²Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

³For, behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth.

“There is no New Testament basis for a linking of church and state until Christ, the King returns. The whole “Constantine mentality” from the fourth century up to our day was a mistake. Constantine, as the Roman Emperor, in 313 ended the persecution of Christians. Unfortunately, the support he gave to the church led by 381 to the enforcing of Christianity, by Theodosius I, as the official state religion. Making Christianity the official state religion opened the way for confusion up till our own day. There have been times of very good government when this interrelationship of church and state has been present. But through the centuries it has caused great confusion between loyalty to the state and loyalty to Christ, between patriotism and being a Christian.

We must not confuse the Kingdom of God with our country. To say it another way: “We should not wrap our Christianity in our national flag.”

“Returning to the Moral Majority, we must realize that regardless of whether we think the Moral Majority has always said the right things or whether we do not, or whether we think they have made some mistakes or whether we do not, they have certainly done one thing right: they have used the freedom we still have in the political arena to stand against the other total entity [secular humanism]. They have carried the fact that law is king, law is above the lawmakers, and God is above the law in to this area of life where it always should have been. And this is a part of true spirituality.

The Moral Majority has drawn a line between the one total view of reality and the other total view of reality and the results this brings forth in government and law. And if you personally do not like some of the details of what they have done, do it better. But you must understand that all Christians have got to do the same kind of thing or you are simply not showing the Lordship of Christ in the totality of life.”

No matter what happens in life, do not give up. No matter what happens in life, do not quit. No matter what happens in life, always be faithful to the Lord. Remember the motto of the Marines: SEMPER FIDELIS. Do not give up on your prayers to the Lord. You may have to pray for five years for something. In my case, I’ve been praying for your mother to get saved for thirty-five years. The last time I tried to verbally lead your mother to the Lord was when Danni was almost one. I audibly led her in the sinner’s prayer while holding Danni in my arms, and I am determined to pray for her salvation until the day I die or until the day she dies.

Here is the story of George Muller’s persistent prayer for the salvation of five people:

In November 1844, I began to pray for the conversion of five individuals. I prayed every day without a single intermission, whether sick or in health, on the land, on the sea, and whatever the pressure of my engagements might be. Eighteen months elapsed before the first of the five was converted. I thanked God and prayed on for the others. Five years elapsed, and then the second was converted. I thanked God for the second, and prayed on for the other three. Day by day, I continued to pray for them, and six years passed before the third was converted. I thanked God for the three, and went on praying for the other two. These two remained unconverted.

Thirty-six years later he wrote that the other two, sons of one of Mueller’s friends, were still not converted. He wrote, “But I hope in God, I pray on, and look for the answer. They are not converted yet, but they will be.” In 1897, fifty-two years after he began to pray daily, without interruption, for these two men, they were finally converted—but after he died! Mueller understood what Luke meant when he introduced a parable Jesus told about prayer, saying, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1).

So do not give up on your prayers.

Second, do not give up on your relationship with the Lord. Don’t become backslidden on God. Don’t receive all of the good things from God that He has bestowed upon you and then quit on God after He has blessed you with so much.

Third, do not quit on your God-given goals. Notice I said, God-given goals. Make sure your goals glorify God and lift up others and not just yourself. Never, never, never quit! Never, never, never give up! Remember, LIVE A PURPOSE-DRIVEN LIFE — A GOD-GIVEN GOAL-DRIVEN LIFE.

Fourth, never quit on your faithfulness to the Lord. Remember Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful. If the Marines can always be faithful to their nation, to their commander, and to their fellow soldiers, you can be faithful to Christ. Even while others are not being faithful you can still be faithful.

Setting Goals for Fruitful Living

2 Samuel 7:18-22

In the 70s, I experienced a turning point in my walk with Christ. It started with 2 Samuel 7, which inspired me to follow in King David’s footsteps. He spent time alone with God, offering praise and thanksgiving. He would also listen as the Lord revealed truth and offered insight about the future. Because of what he learned, David was able to set goals and stay aligned with them.

Desiring that kind of solitude, I spent several days alone in a camper at Georgia’s Stone Mountain. Most of the time, I was silent, listening intently for God’s voice. I asked Him to speak to me regarding my future, and He answered. Using a journal, I recorded the goals He inspired. The things He communicated so impacted my choices and so greatly blessed me that I continued the discipline every couple of months.

Let’s discuss how to establish aims in this manner. First, come before the throne of Almighty God with a repentant heart, praise, and thanksgiving. Then, ask Him for direction in areas such as spiritual life, career, and family. In silence, wait patiently and attentively—as you read and meditate upon God’s Word, He will speak. Most often, His guidance is experienced as a prodding or conviction in the heart. When that happens, be sure to write down what you’re “hearing” so you can review it later.

In order to stay on the path God intends for our lives, we should plan times to stop, ask, and listen for guidance. The world throws confusing messages at us all day long, and we need to check our course frequently. These conversations with the Lord are vital for a thriving life of godly impact.

When I became a believer in Jesus Christ, I somehow had the false idea that Christianity began when I got saved. I had no concept of the hundreds of years of history that Christianity had gone through since the time of Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago. I have found that many believers, young and old, have the same false idea. The purpose of this broadcast is to dispel this notion by sharing with listeners the history of Christianity from the ministry of Jesus Christ all the way up until the present day in an easy-to-understand format. You don’t have to worry: this is not a lecture. This is a look at the basic facts and figures of Christian history that every believer and every person needs to be aware of.

Our Scripture for today is Acts 20:28 which reads: “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

Our History of Christianity quote today is from Paul House. He said: “The early church was most useful when it preached the meaning of Christ through the lens of the whole of Scripture. It was most powerful when it maintained integrity with God and other human beings. It was most evangelistic when it understood that adherents of other religions, whether Jewish or Greek or Roman, faced eternal judgment without Christ.”

Today, in the History of Christianity, we are looking at “The Call For Reformation, Part 1” from Dr. Justo L. Gonzalez’s fine book, THE STORY OF CHRISTIANITY: THE REFORMATION TO THE PRESENT DAY (Volume 2).

THE CALL FOR REFORMATION

“The dissolution is such, that the souls entrusted to the clergy receive great damage, for we are told that the majority of the clergy are living in open concubinage, and that if our justice intervenes in order to punish them, they revolt and create a scandal, and that they despise our justice to the point that they arm themselves against it.”

-Isabella of Castile, on November 20, 1500

As the fifteenth century came to a close, it was clear that the church was in need of profound reformation, and that many longed for it. The decline and corruption of the papacy was well known. After its residence in Avignon, where it had served as a tool of French interests, the papacy had been further weakened by the Great Schism, which divided Western Europe in its allegiance to two–and even three–popes. At times, the various claimants to the papal see seemed equally unworthy. Then, almost as soon as the schism was healed, the papacy fell into the hands of men who were more moved by the glories of the Renaissance than by the message of the cross. Through war, intrigue, bribery, and licentiousness, these popes sought to restore and even to outdo the glories of ancient Rome. As a result, while most people still believed in the supreme authority of the Roman see, many found it difficult to reconcile their faith in the papacy with their distrust for its actual occupants.

Corruption, however, was not limited to the leadership in Rome. The councils that had been convened as a means to reform and to end the Great Schism were able to end the schism, but not to bring about the needed reformation. Furthermore, even in ending the schism the conciliar movement showed its own flaws, for there were soon two rival councils–just as before there had been two or even three rival popes, and conciliarism had failed miserably in the task of bringing about the much-needed reform. One of the reasons for such failure was that several of the bishops sitting in the councils were themselves among those who profited from the existing corruption. Thus, while the hopeful conciliarist reformers issued anathemas and decrees against absenteeism, pluralism, and simony–the practice of buying and selling ecclesiastical positions–many who sat on the councils were guilty of such practices, and were not ready to give them up.

Dear friend, simply knowing the facts about Christian history without knowing the One on Whom this faith is based will do you no good. If you do not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, may I encourage you to get to know Him today. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can be a part of the church in this life and in the life to come. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

When gospel singer Bobbi Storm got baptized at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in October 2020, at Emmanuel Christian Center Inc., in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she declared that “God is about to use me in ways like never before.”

“Today is the day! Take one good look at this woman in this pic … because after today she will never be the same! God is about to use me in ways like never before and I feel it! I receive it! Whew!” she said in an Instagram post with a photo showing her dressed in white baptismal garb. “Baptized in a pandemic! I feel strength and power like never before!”

Just over three years later, Storm who is a featured vocalist on Maverick City Music’s The Maverick Way Completealbum, which is nominated for best gospel album for the 2024 Grammys, is making headlines for doing what she says the Lord recently told her to do — sing her new song called “We Can’t Forget Him” for passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight before takeoff.

Video posted by Storm on Instagram on the weekend, however, shows a flight attendant challenging her attempt to sing to passengers who she said told her it was OK to do after asking their permission.

I pray and trust that you are doing well. Never get depressed for the rest of your life, and always be cheerful. We are not talking about will power here. Here’s how you can avoid getting depressed and always be cheerful in your heart, mind, soul, and spirit:

1. Make sure that you are saved. “Examine yourself and see whether or not you are in the faith” because Jesus Christ is the only one who can keep you from getting depressed and keep you cheerful every day, all day.

2. “Pray without ceasing.” Read the Bible daily. Meditate on the Bible without ceasing.

3. Stay away from sin like it is the plague. There is nothing in this world that will make you feel depressed, empty, sad, and lonely like sin in your life, especially living in sin. That pain will last a long time if you do not stop it, and it will make you destroy the relationship with the people who love you the most. Also, stay away, especially from sexual sin, for any sexual sin will destroy the lives of each of you because you have been warned about it so much. It is going to be very hard to get over the guilt of sexual sin, and it will mar your life for the rest of your life.

4. Stay away from evil people. Once you find out they are evil, and that they are doing evil and are trying to pull you into their evil, get away from them. Lead others to Christ and righteousness and life. Stop being a follower. Make up your mind like your Papa did: If anybody is going to follow somebody, it will be them–not me.

5. Watching too much television, getting drunk, getting high on drugs, and watching pornography will make you depressed, sad, disgusted, and defeated.

6. Dwelling in the past, which WOKEISM will make you do, and not having goals for the future will make you depressed and sad because you do not have direction for your life. You are not living a “Purpose-Driven Life.”

7. Do not so-call “FALL IN LOVE” (By the way, there is no such thing as “falling in love”; It is more like falling into stupid and then falling into hell) with somebody to the point you cannot be happy without them. As you have heard me say many times, you must bring happiness to the table through the Lord, and they must do the same. By the way, don’t lead people on, and don’t let anyone “fall in love” with you, either. If someone says I am “in love” with you, run; don’t walk.

8. Stop comparing yourself with others, and be content with how God made you; be free in Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “those who compare themselves with themselves are not wise.” I never thought that any of my children would use Botox or any other cosmetic surgery to try to make themselves other than what God made them.

THE SIMPLE SECRET TO A GREAT NEW YEAR

I have never been good at being a handyman. Things that are a piece of cake to a handyman are like climbing Mt. Everest to me.

One time Debbie asked me to put in a doggie door. She said, “You can do it, Jeff. The box says, “Simple installation.” “Simple is good,” I responded as I opened the box with gusto.

The very first instruction was to get out my electric drill. That is when I knew their definition of “simple” and mine were quite different. With “simple” instructions, I would have been told to get out my hammer. Now that is simple! (Note: the doggie door installation was so NOT simple that I had to call my friend Gene over to help me before I completely lost my salvation).

DO YOU LIKE SIMPLE?

If you like simple, you are going to love my simple secret to a great new year. First, get out your electric drill (just kidding).

The simple secret is this: To experience a great year, just do what Jesus said, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things [the things you and I worry about] shall be added to you”. If you will seek Him first, He promises to meet all your needs.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SEEK HIM FIRST?

1. It means that you spend time with Him at the first of each day, praying and reading His Word, asking Him for direction, guidance, help and insight … confessing your sins when you blow it, and seeking His grace to help in your time of need.

2. It means you put His agenda above your agenda. You pray, “Not my will, but Thine be done”. You live your life to please Jesus, not to please yourself.

3. It means you obey Him and do what He says in the power He supplies. You don’t let your fleshly desires control you; you let Jesus control you.

4. It means you invest your time, talent and resources in the kingdom of God, not the kingdom of self.

5. It means you recognize that He is everything, and in Christ “are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge”. The true treasures of life—love, joy, peace, fulfillment, true success—are only found in Jesus … so you spend your time seeking Him.

Don’t wait for the ball to drop in Times Square before seeking first the kingdom of God. Start now! Put Jesus first every day you are blessed to live… and He will bless your life abundantly in return.

One of my favorite Scriptures says, “For those who honor Me, I will honor”. If you want God to honor you, honor Him in all you do. The best is yet to be… and the ball is in your court.
